Stuck in a roundabout of stupidity…
What a strange sign.
I’ve seen the category a thousand times in every bookstore but this weekend it struck me as odd. So here is the basic idea:
1. I realize I’m messed up (good)
2. I then grasp that I need help (excellent)
3. I reach out for help (perfect)
4. But reaching out to the one person that is most responsible for me being messed up…MYSELF? (bad idea)

Years ago Laurie and I went to England and rented a car. Driving straight was no problem, but the roundabouts were amazing to navigate. I love the scene in “European Vacation” when Chevy Chase gets stuck in the roundabout. You see the exit but just can never seem to get over to it…so around you go again…here comes the exit…nope, missed it again.
Man I do this with my sin. I keep thinking I can fix it. I get close, but then I blow it again. And right on cue, I try and fix it again. Then blow it again. But this time will be different. And it is…right up until the moment I blow it again.
Roundabout of Stupidity.
I can never seem to learn that outward attempts to manage my own sinful behavior can never replace a heart that is changed.
Psalms 51:10-12 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.
